This amazing guy made was sometimes called the peanut doctor because he could make anything as simple as paper to things that were complex like bio-fuel. Yep, that's right, you name it he made it.
His slave owner Mosses had six sisters and one brother whom a few died being premature. He took care of one of his brother's children because of his loss of a daughter. When his nephews grew up and went to collage, he and his wife was left by themselves to nourish the farm. Since the fourty year olds didn't have anyone to help them, he bought thirteen year old Mary and infant James from his neighbor. six years before that, he purchased two hundred and fourty acres of land t make a living. Historians believe that George was born around the time the Civil War was in session which are the years of 1860 through 1864. During this time, many people would steal and burn just about anything they got their hands on. These people were called Knight ridders. Knight ridders mostly kidnapped slaves from their owners to sell them in the south for a "higher price." One of the slaves were George and his sister Melissa and his mother Mary who were sold in Kentucky. Luckly, his older brother was hidden in a safe place. His master looked for them, and when he couldn't find them, he offered an ex- Knight ridder Charles Bentley 40areas of land and his best racing horse. Sadly, Bentley only found week old George by the side of the road. Still, Mosses was thankful for that. After the war ended, he decided to raise George and his brother James as his own. George had a rough childhood. For example, he had many siblings that were split up and taken away. When he was just a week old, he suffered a serious disease called the whooping cough. This disease is usually found in children and could lead to death. This disease makes a child have a horrible cough that sounds like a whoop and makes it hard for them to breath and catching their breath. Despite the fact that many children died from this disease, he survived. Mosses allowed George and his brother to play with the neighbors and school kids until he was ten. The master made George and James work in the cotton field, but since he wasn't as strong as the other boys, his slave owner Mosses let him work in the kitchen. On his free time, he would explore the woods and gardens. He would also ask both Mosses Carter and his wife Susan Carter about botany or the study of plants. George and his bother loved to venture in the middle of the night after a blast with his friends or ridding sheep.
Even though he was technically born smart, he went to school when he was thirty years old because of his skin color. George also couldn't go to school because it was miles away from his plantation. So he went to school only a few times, and Mosses taught George and his brother how to read and write. This would come in handy for George later on in life.
George was quite a class clown in collage. For example, he would walk around making silly voices, having foot races, and chasing Freshmen into the woods whom were standing by or around the garden. Some of the teachers made him eat lunch with the Help. So George preferred to eat around the garden. Despite his color, they principal gave George the honor of escorting the governor to the Banquet. Even though he was a goofy clown, he worked hard to get his Master's Degree at Tuskegee Collage. Booker T
Washington was a Professor at the collage in science or more specifically, botany the study of plants.
After his Master's Degree, George decided to become a teacher. He taught many of his students how to recycle. For example, George showed his students how to recycle by telling them to use chalk dust for their pencil stubbs. He also showed them by making his laboratory out of glass, rubber, plastic and other things that his students collected. One day, George surprised his students by inviting them to his laboratory for dinner. He made everything on their plate which was mashed potatoes, beans and collard greens as well as the dessert out of peanuts. He also worked alongside Booker T and he also started teaching students more in depth.
George was not a selfish man because even though his Alma mater was Nampton Normal and Agricultural Institute Wayland Seminary, he taught many other people outside school. For example, he taught his friend named Petry how to red and write. He also taught him how to count his baskets of laundry so no one would't steal them.
After the Civil War, the south was in great depression. On top of that, bugs called boil weevils ate most of the cotton plants. For this cause, George Washington Carver studied peanuts and different ways to use peanuts to help "his people." He made oils, peanut butter, shaving cream and many other things. He also found ways to reuse left- over potatoes, beans, squash, and of course peanuts. He found different ways to process milk and peanuts. He didn't patent any of his inventions, what he did was put all or the money he earned towards further research in Tuskegee Collage. He never got married either. When he was asked why he did this, he said that he wanted to share my works with the world and continue his research through his student.
